Frederick Simmons

A local Memorial and Remembrance event will be held to honor our Brother Frederick Simmons on Sunday, September 13th at IBEW Local 46 in Kent WA.  The address is: 19802 62nd Ave South, Kent WA, 98032.  The event will start at 2:00PM, and there is plenty of FREE parking.  The event will be informal, and you are encouraged to bring a food item to share.  As you all know, Frederick didn’t like a meeting without having some good food!

Some of Frederick’s Family will be here from St. Louis, to hear about and learn how ‘Big Fred’ touched so many of us locally.  This will be a fun afternoon of telling stories, fellowship, and honoring the everlasting memories of our Brother.  Please share this with others, and remember ALL who knew Frederick are welcome!

If you have any questions about the event, please call me directly at 425-351-8911.

Thank you.

Solidarity Forever,

Sean L. Bagsby

Frederick Simmons was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri where he became involved in community activism at an early age. After training in Atlanta to become an electrician, Simmons moved to Seattle and spent his first two years working as a day laborer and a warehouse supervisor. Soon after enrolling in an electrician apprenticeship program, he became active in efforts to organize a Seattle Chapter of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC) within IBEW Local 46. In 1996, Simmons was elected as the first President of the Local 46 EWMC. He served as a Board Member for Legacy of Equality, Leadership and Organizing (LELO).
