EWMC Chicago Chapter 2018 Activities
Posted On: Nov 03, 2018

The Chicago Chapter has enjoyed a Busy 2018 while participating in various community outreach efforts as well as working to achieve several of the EWMC Chapter Challenges.
Notably the Chapter has been involved in several Career Day events at three Local High Schools, developing a prison to work re-entry partnership, as well as mentoring students and younger workers. We've also been involved in GOTV Efforts, Growing Chapter membership, and Apprenticeship recruitment.

The following is a brief summary of our most recent activities.

August - The EWMC Chicago Chapter celebrated and sponsored it's 10th Annual Back to School Family Cookout.

The Back to School Cookout has been our signature event since 2008 and features a day of Food, Fun, Games, Music, and Prizes for our neighborhood children and their families.
We take pride in being able to provide our community with educational resources, and a message that promotes education, strong families, and unity.

Our goal each year is to provide at least 100 students with a bag of school supplies and I'm proud to say that this year we not only reached our goal of 100 students we were also able to Donate 25 bags to the students of Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School.
We thank Business Manager Don Finn and the Local 134 membership for their support as well as our Corporate Sponsors and Community Partnerships.

September - We are pleased to report that in the month of September the Chicago Chapter kicked off it's Home Stretch GOTV Effort by Hosting the Local 134 Summer Monthly Pre- Meeting Cookout. While Hosting this event it gave us an opportunity to launch our GOTV Campaign leading up to the November Midterm Elections.

In addition to engaging our Local Union Brothers and Sisters about getting out the vote we promoted our GOTV Slogan " Don't Just Register!" "Don't Just Vote!" "Get Involved!" We engaged our Local Union through t-shirt sales and voter education urging our membership to become actively involved in phone banking, door knocking, and voter registration.
Our GOTV Campaign will continue up to and beyond the 2020 Presidential Election.

October - The Chicago Chapter October activities included the final coordination and planning for the upcoming International Day of Service on November 17, 2018.
Our coordination effort was able to secure commitments and sponsorship for 5 community outreach projects which include outreach to the Veteran community, the less fortunate and homeless community, and 3 community organizations where we will be providing minor electrical installations and repairs. We look forward to giving back this November!

Our October activities also included networking with and acquiring a new community partnership. The new partnership is in conjunction with our Financial Literacy Chapter Challenge.
On October 23, 2018 the Chicago Chapter agreed to participate in a financial literacy training session with Country Financial as part of their Community Outreach and Diversity program.

The training will initially consist of training our Chapter and hopefully in the near future it will include training sessions for our surrounding EWMC Chapters and General Membership.
We feel that this partnership will be of great benefit to our members and will help to plan and guide the financial future of the Chicago Chapter.
